Who doesn't love fresh, plump and bright red strawberries? These beautiful heart shaped berries are packed with high levels of antioxidants, fibre, vitamin C, Potassium and Manganese. These fat and cholesterol free tiny berries are perfect to snack at any time of the day.

Jam is one of the many ways to preserve any fruit. While you can easily buy jam from any grocery store, the homemade jam has a different appeal to it. In this recipe of strawberry jam, I have used just two ingredients without any preservative. Enjoy this luscious, soft homemade strawberry jam with bread, a slice of cake, cookies or just simply as it is.

Ingredients

Sterilization of jars

You will be needing sterilized jars to preserve the jam. It’s merely an easy procedure.

Wash the jars with soap and rinse them properly. Now, place the jars and the lids in a tub of boiling water and let it soak for about 5-10 minutes. Wipe the jars with a clean cloth.

Method to Prepare Strawberry Jam:

  1. Prepare the strawberries for the jam. Using a knife scoop the stem of the strawberries and wash & rise them properly. Cut the berries into halves or cubes.

  2. In a heavy bottomed pan, add the berries, sugar and lemon juice and bring the mixture to a rolling boil on a low flame.

  3. Keep stirring the mixture occasionally. Ensure that the sugar dissolves properly so that no sugar lumps are formed.

  4. Skim the foam formed on top of the pan using a spoon.

  5. At first the berries will release some water. But, eventually the mixture will thicken and you can turn off the flame when you get the desired consistency.

  6. Ladle the jam into sterilized glass jars immediately.

Your delicious homemade strawberry jam is ready!

You can preserve this jam for about 4-6 months. Keep it refrigerated.

Tip: You can crush the strawberries before making the jam if you want the consistency of the jam to be even more smooth. But, if you want some chunky bits of strawberry in your jam, avoid this step.
