Baking soda can be used to tenderise tough cut of meat. You only need to rub baking soda onto the meat and then leave the meat in the refrigerator for between three to five hours.

When you’re ready to cook the meat, rinse the meat thoroughly and you can cook the meat and your meat will be tender.

2. Get rid of fishy smell

Fishy smell doesn’t mean your fish is bad. Perhaps you just don’t like the strong fish smell. No worries. You can try soaking the fish in a solution of one litre of water with two tablespoon of baking soda. Place the fish soaked in the solution in the refrigerator for one hour. Before cooking, make sure to rinse the fish and pat it dry. You’ll find that your fish won’t smell fishy anymore.

3. Make fluffy omelette

Your omelette can be made fluffier if you add half a teaspoon of baking soda for every three eggs that you use.

4. Yeast substitute

In the event that you’ve run out of yeast, do not fret if you have baking soda instead. You can replace the yeast with a mixture of powdered vitamin C (citric acid) and baking soda. Use the same quantity as required for the yeast in the recipe. An additional advantage to using this mixture is that you don’t need to wait for the dough to rise before putting it in the oven.

5. Making baked beans not cause flatulence

Baked beans can cause flatulence. To reduce this after effect of ingesting this gas-causing food, you can add a pinch of baking soda while the baked beans are cooking. This will greatly help in reducing flatulence.
